The Aloe Vera has been part of the natural healers remedy kit for centuries. Well known for it’s remarkable nourishing properties when taken internally – aiding in digestion, boosting essential nutrients and aiding our immune function. However in this post we look externally and at the benefits of Aloe Vera for the skin.
The amazing Aloe enhances the health and beauty of our skin, hair and more.
What Part Of The Aloe Do We Use? The Benefits Of Aloe Vera For The Skin.
Now you are obviously able to purchase Aloe Vera gel from your local natural health food store. And there is nothing wrong with that! Just ensure you purchase a reputable and organically pure brand. I have added 2 suggestions below -they are excellent and as good as harvesting your own!
How To Harvest Your Own Aloe Vera Extract
Keep in mind that while this may seem like a vicious and destructive attack on a plant, the reality is that by removing these external aged leaves you will actually promote the plants health and the further generation of new growth.
Start your harvest by selecting only the older fatter leaves that surround the exterior of the Aloe Vera plants base.
Grip your selected leaves as close to the base as possible. Then pull gently but firmly. These older leaves will come away from the base quite easily. Ensure you take care, the spines along the edge of the leaves are sharp and unforgiving.
Once you have harvested your Aloe Vera leaves, use a small but very sharp knife to slice off those thorny edges. Now slice up the middle of the leaf and you will end up with two long strips. Place the Aloe slices onto a flat surface – cut side up- the cut side will be oozing gel.
Take a teaspoon and gently scrape the moisture and firm gel from each strip and place into a clean and airtight seal able container. You should view these strips as you would a slice of melon. Try to remove as much of the interior pulp as possible, leaving just the hard exterior skin.
Benefit 1 – Use Your Aloe Vera As An Anti-Aging Remedy
Anti aging is a common concern for both men and women all around the world. Whichever are the first signs, wrinkles around the eyes and lips, or small fine lines and gradually enlarging pores, they are the tell-tale signs of aging.
Some people may find natural aging perfectly acceptable once they get to a certain age, while others do not and seek ways to halt or slow this process. Regardless of viewpoint there are things you can do to preserve that youthful glow and you don’t need to resign yourself to early aging.
Many people are unaware that they must be very careful when choosing products to treat aging. Many store bought creams and lotions can actually do more damage to your skin than any benefit they may promote. This is due to cheap chemical fillers which overtime lead to damage of the skin.
It is therefore not surprising that people seek natural remedies. Great news! The benefits of Aloe Vera for the skin include wonderful anti aging properties.
Under Eye Treatments.
You just need to visit any store or pharmacy and you will see hundreds of bottles of lotions and creams which claim to help with sagging under eye bags, dark circles, and fine lines and wrinkles.
These products, if reputable, aim to boost retinol to the area as well as helping to tighten skin.
From today you can put away the credit card and save yourself a fortune because Aloe will do exactly the same.
Simply use a pure aloe gel or a freshly sliced piece of the leaf daily under your eye. Gently rub the gel around the eye area, as you would your creams. Now just allow it to dry. You can do this twice a day if you wish and you can even apply your makeup over the top. You will feel the skin tighten as well as looking beautifully hydrated.
An ever popular form of anti-aging products are the serums, in particular Vitamin C based serums.
They are designed to be applied to the face directly after cleansing and come in liquid form. Some moisturizers also have a few drops of serums added to them.
Again, like creams, our problem is that we do not know every other added ingredient that is added to these products. However you can avoid all that expenditure and worry by simply using an aloe vera gel serum.
- 40ml Spring Water
- 30ml Aloe Vera Gel
- 4 Drops Orange Essential Oil
- 4 Drops Lemon Essential Oil
- 6 Drops Witch Hazel Extract
Use this in place of your store bought serum and use on your face once to twice a day. The citrus oils provide the Vitamin C and promote the production of collagen. Witch Hazel and Aloe Vera preserve elasticity, add moisture, tighten, tone and firm your skin.
You will soon start to see dull areas of your face becoming visibly brighter.
Make Up Remover
We all know that make-up remover is full of harsh chemicals. While these chemicals will remove your make up, they will also leave your skin dry and lack luster.
This then leads to enlarging of pores, red patches and other skin issues.
You can avoid these skin issues by making your own. Add aloe gel and coconut oil into a mixing bowl at a one to one ratio. Then whip this mix with a hand held mixer.
Keep whipping until creamy and has added air. Spoon it into a jar with an airtight lid.
You can use this daily to remove makeup and it can also be used as a moisturizer. It is a wonderful blend to help reduce pore size and cuts down on dryness or red patches.
Use Aloe Vera Gel For Skin Hygiene.
Poor skin hygiene can lead to other more severe illnesses and health conditions, in particular rashes, sores, dry skin and cracking. The benefits of Aloe Vera for the skin include properties which are excellent for our hygiene and skin cleansing.
Shaving Cream Alternative
Part of our regular skin care regime, that we often do not think of, is shaving. Shaving is not mere grooming, it actually keeps our skin in good condition through exfoliation and thorough cleansing. We shave our legs, under arms, chest and face.
However because of the regularity of shaving this repeated cleaning, especially with store-bought shaving lotions and creams, can dry our skin or cause the development of red patches.
Perfumes added to them can also irritate the skin, and for some people, can cause body odor to worsen when mixed with our body chemistry.
To avoid any of these issues, simply switch to your aloe gel. Mixed with coconut oil allows you to use it as a shaving lotion and cream.
An increasing number of people prefer not to use store bought and chemical laden deodorants. This is for a number of reasons but usually related to irritation or skin rash.
In reality all we need from a deodorant is a product which prevents bacteria growth. It is bacteria that causes offensive body odor.
Another one of the benefits of Aloe Vera for the skin is it’s antibacterial nature. You can just use the Aloe Vera gel as it is. Alternatively you can create a wonderful deodorant cream by mixing equal amounts of Aloe Vera with coconut oil and a few drops of tea tree oil.
By using some or all of these methods, you can help maintain excellent skin hygiene and fight the signs of aging. All at a fraction of the cost!
