Best Home Remedies For Migraine.

Unfortunately, most people are only aware of pharmaceutical treatments and don’t explore other options. This limits their access to potentially more effective alternatives.

There are many natural and healthy treatment alternatives that research shows to be equally, if not more, effective than many medications.

Natural treatments for migraines offer great results with minimal health risks. People can choose from a variety of holistic options such as herbs, supplements, acupuncture, reflexology and aromatherapy to treat their migraines successfully.

In my opinion, the best home remedies for migraines are offered as combination therapy; they are all natural and safe!

I encourage you to try each natural remedy on its own and in combination, and judge for yourself the benefits.

I also encourage you to use each remedy as part of a migraine treatment plan, taking a holistic approach to prevention rather than cure. It is best to prevent migraines rather than act once the telltale signs appear.

If used regularly, our home remedies for migraine will ease suffering and, over time, prevent them from occurring.

As with any holistic, natural remedy, always consult your doctor or health practitioner if you are taking any pharmaceuticals or have previously identified health concerns. Natural products are safe, but for peace of mind, consulting initially is recommended.

Natural Remedies For Migraine Treatment.

Let us now discover our home remedies for migraine. This is a combination therapy. The treatment consists of three phases with a total of five steps.

Phase 1 – Herbal Preventatives.

This is easy and consists of adding two herbal supplements to your daily diet, which can be sourced from your local natural health store. I have included links to the brands that I have used, tested, and trust.

It is important to note that these herbal supplements are preventative and need to be taken regularly to be effective. Neither of these supplements can be used to halt or ease a migraine once it has developed.

The herbal supplements should be taken for at least two months. Ideally, add these herbal supplements to your normal vitamin and diet regimen on a daily basis for ongoing results. Trust me, it is worth it!

Step 1 – Feverfew Herbal Supplement.

Feverfew contains parthenolide as its major active component.

Parthenolide helps to relieve migraines by inhibiting the chemical reactions in the brain that cause excessive widening of blood vessels.

The dilation of blood vessels is the cause of the severe temple throbbing pains associated with migraines.

Step 2 – Butterbur (Home Remedies For Migraine)

Butterbur extract has been around for centuries and is an effective part of any migraine prevention regimen.Taking it daily is safe and can help greatly reduce the likelihood of a migraine event.

When taken regularly, butterbur has been proven to effectively reduce the frequency and severity of migraine attacks.

Butterbur has both antispasmodic effects and anti-inflammatory properties.

When used in combination with Feverfew, it provides an excellent herbal therapy for easing tension and preventing migraine onset.

Phase 2: Sensory Touch And Stimulation.

This phase includes 3 steps. The techniques discussed can also be used when you feel the onset of migraine, or to soothe migraine pain during an attack. As always prevention is better than cure, so we advise adding them as much as possible to your daily routine.

Step 3 – Hydrotherapy

This is a very easy and amazingly effective combination therapy known as “Hydrotherapy Contrast Showers.” In plain English – interchanging hold and cold showers!

First, take a shower with water as hot as you can stand (without being burned!) for two to three minutes. We do this because the hot water increases the flow and amount of blood sent to the skin.

Then change the shower to as cold as you can stand. This sends the blood to your core. Stay in the cold water for two to three minutes.

Alternate this hot and cold hydrotherapy for twenty minutes.

These techniques increase your blood flow and assist circulation. As your blood circulates, it brings nutrients to your organs and eliminates toxins from your body.

Getting your blood circulating also restores blood vessels to their normal size and reduces any over-dilation, which causes the stabbing temple pain.

If this hot-and-cold shower regime is not something you can manage, you can also sit with your feet in a bucket of very cold water and place a hot compress or towel on the back of your neck.

This will help to bring the blood down from your head and limb areas and send it to your feet.

acupressure - natural home remedies for migraine

Step 4 – Acupressure (Home Remedies For Migraine)

Acupressure, and in this case self-acupressure, is a simple and proven effective therapy for migraine.

This is because acupressure improves circulation, relieves stress, reduces tension, and helps to stimulate the release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers.

Sit comfortably in a chair, feet flat on the ground and take several slow deep breaths.

Now firmly pinch the soft tissue between your thumb and forefinger and hold for 20 seconds. Repeat this several times on both hands.

Now take your thumb and place it in your mouth.

With your thumb, locate the cheekbone inside the mouth on the same side as the migraine, if one is occurring. Press the bone up and outward.

Hold for 20 seconds then repeat on the other side of the mouth.

Finally, place both of your thumbs on the upper palate inside your mouth.

Your soft thumb tissue should rest against your upper palate and inside your upper teeth. Gently pull outwards and hold for 20 seconds.

Repeat several times.

Finish by taking several slow, deep breaths and then have a tall glass of cold water to hydrate.

Phase 3: Sensory Aromatic Relaxation

Step 5 – Aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy is excellent for migraine prevention and provides great sensory relief during an attack. Make sure to source high-quality essential oils for your aroma burner.

Peppermint and lavender are probably the best-known essential oils for relieving tension and migraines. Equally effective and highly recommended are rosemary, eucalyptus, sandalwood, and basil.

Use a high-quality essential oil and burn it at least once daily, preferably when you can sit and relax and focus on your breathing.

Many migraines are made worse because of the stress and tension caused by having them. It’s almost a catch-22 situation. The migraine develops, causing stress which leads to your body tensing, making the migraine even worse. Use aromatherapy relaxation to melt away all the tension!

I hope this post brings you relief from the suffering of migraines. Used as a combination therapy, I truly believe it is one of the best migraine treatment natural remedies.
