This article is to provide what I believe to be the best migraine treatment and natural remedy.

For migraine sufferers there can be no worse time than when those personally identifiable tell tale signs appear.  The floaters in the eyes. The diagonal zig zags. The pressure in the frontal lobe etc.

Most sufferers have identifiers but unfortunately by the time these are seen, felt or sensed it’s already too late and  the migraine is on its way.

In this article we look at the best migraine treatment and natural remedies. If used, and followed as part of a migraine prevention plan, on a regular basis or as soon as identifiers present themselves they can offer massive relief.  Over time they may prevent those migraines happening at all.

3 Steps and 5 Stages of the treatment plan

Step 1 – Herbal Prevention

Source the 2 different herbal supplements from your natural health provider.

It is important to note that neither of these herbs will stop a migraine once developed.

The herbs should be taken regularly for a period of 2-3 months OR until you have a migraine free period.  Ideally continue taking these herbal supplements daily and ongoing.

The active ingredient in Feverfew is called parthenolide.

Parthenolide aides in inhibiting chemical reactions in the brain that cause the blood vessels to over dilate. This means Feverfew prevents dilation which is the cause of the serious throbbing associated with migraines.

Butterbur extract has been used for centuries and can safely be taken daily as a preventative.

Regular use of Butterbur has shown to effectively reduce the number of attacks and severity of migraines.

Butterbur has both antispasmodic effects and anti-inflammatory properties.

In combination with Feverfew it provides an excellent combination therapy for easing tension and preventing migraine onset.

Step 2: Sensory Touch Stimulation With Hydrotherapy And Acupressure

These techniques can be used as you feel the onset or during a migraine attack.

Hydrotherapy: Best Migraine Treatment (Stage 3)

This is very easy to do and amazingly effective.  It is the treatment of “Hydrotherapy Contrast Showers.”

First take a shower with the water as hot as you can stand (without being burnt!) for two-three minutes.  Hot water increases your flow of blood to the skin.

Then change the shower to cold water, again set the water as cold as you can take it.  This sends the blood to your core. Stay in cold water for two-three minutes.

Alternate this hot and cold hydrotherapy for twenty minutes.  This techniques increases your blood flow and therefore assists circulation.  During blood circulation you are bringing nutrients to organs and eliminating toxins from the body.

If this hot and cold shower regime is not something you are able to manage you can also sit with your feet in a bucket of very cold water and place a hot compress or towel on the back of your neck.

This will aide by bringing the blood down from your head and lobe areas and sending it to the feet.

Acupressure: Best Migraine Treatment (Stage 4)

Sit comfortably in a chair, feet flat on the ground and take several slow deep breaths.

Then firmly pinch the soft tissue between your thumb and forefinger and hold for 20 seconds.  Repeat several times on both hands.

Now take your thumb and place it in your mouth. With your thumb locate the cheekbone inside the mouth,the same side as the migraine if one is occurring.  Press the bone up and outwards. Hold for 20 seconds then repeat on the other side of the mouth.

Finally place both of your thumb on the upper palate inside your mouth.  Your soft thumb tissue should rest against your upper palate and inside upper teeth.  Gently pull outwards.  Hold for 20 seconds.  Repeat several times.

Finish by relaxing and taking several slow deep breaths and finish with a tall glass of cold water to hydrate.

Step 3: Sensory Aromatic Relaxation

Aromatherapy is excellent for migraine prevention and equally offers great sensory relief during attack.  Ensure you source high quality essential oils for your aroma burner.

Peppermint and lavender are probably the best known essential oils for tension and migraine relief.  Equally good and highly recommended are rosemary, eucalyptus, sandalwood and basil.

Use a quality essential oil and burn at least once daily, preferably when you can sit and relax and focus on breathing.

Many migraines are made worse because of the stress and tension that having them causes.  Its almost a catch 22 situation.

The migraine develops. This causes stress.  The stress causes your body to tense. Tension makes the migraine worse.   Use aromatherapy relaxation to melt away all tension!

  • One thing that really helped me with my migraines was to detox. I would go into an apple juice fast for a whole day and then my my migraine would increase for the first bit.

    But after a day or 2 it will be completely gone and I can go on for a couple of weeks without migraines. I also stay away from processes foods because those chemicals are one of the culprits for migraines
